A Ceann Uide Samhain

So last night, as I hope you may know, was Samhain. It is the holiday that cowans (non-witches, mundanes) call Halloween. It is a night to revere the dead, those who have walked before us. It is a night to look through the veils and determine what lies in wait for us. It is a night where we revel and play with the spirits of the many worlds, as they come to play with us in turn.

So last night, we held one of our famous Ceann Uide Potion Parties. A potion party, is very simply a fun time for those of us who like to get together and do witchy creepy fun stuff. We break out the herbs from the cabinet, and litter the floor of the living room with candles and mortars and pestles and water and isopropyl alcohol, and plenty of other things. Then we brew up spells in our cauldrons (literally, there are often a couple of small iron cauldrons involved, although we all sort of favor the pretty ceramic cauldron).

So Shivian, Frank, George, Lizzie, Josiah, and I, rang in the pagan new year to the sounds of ceramic and marble crushing and turning herbs. To the chanting of low voices over candles and cauldrons, to the tinkle of bells whenever I moved (I love my belled ankle bracelet sooo much). To the sound of stiring my potion, and the curses that flew when we spilled or couldn’t find the one funnel we share (We really need more funnels).

We celebrated in pleasure, in the joy of each others company. We reveled during our shared meal, and honored our ancestors in our ways. We cast the circle round and let the spirits commune with us. We divined, and the runes danced across the floor of the apartment, lit by the warm glow of candlelight from the hearth altar.

And then I slept, and overslept, and didn’t get to work until 10:30 this morning. ooops.

Great Samhain everyone!

autumn twilight

Where two opposing forces meet, where there is change, a between place exists. These places are sacred points where the world as we know it can be suspended.

It is here that I strive to live my life. As a mystic, I wander in and out of the between places with each waking moment; striving to find wisdom and meaning in the paths that I walk.

autumn twilight is my personal exploration of these journeys. A place to share observations, fantasies, thoughts, experiences, and philosophy.
